Love Notes from Abby: Living Out Truth

Transcript:

Good morning. I hope that your day is off to a great start.

We're continuing on with our truth series, and today we're going to talk about living out truth in love.

The scripture that we're really focusing in on is John 14:6.

Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
— John 14:6

Yesterday we were delving into what it means to speak truth in love.

We talked about truth in love and that we speak truth because of our love and because of our love, we speak truth.

Last night I met with my discipleship group. We call it the D group, and basically it's a group of five women from varying ages and backgrounds and life stations and all of that. And so we read the Bible.

We have certain passages that we read five days a week, so we don't read the entire Bible, but we read the majority of the Bible.

The purpose of our group is that we not only read the Bible through, but the real focus of it is that we will be changed by God's word. And so that's the biggest difference between say a Bible study, a traditional Bible study, and this d group model.

And I have to say, having been in Bible studies my whole life, coming to the D group model, it's been a definite shift in that I love to learn.

Oh my goodness, I love to read. I love to study. I can go on a rabbit hole of research and find all kinds of info. Basically. I'm very cool in case you had ever, um, wondered.

So in the Bible study method, that's what you're doing. You're digging into scripture and, and it's phenomenal. That's great. And we definitely want to dig into scripture. But the problem is when our head knowledge exceeds our heart knowledge or our obedience, and for a lot of us, I think that that can happen.

We know the stories, we know the verses, we've been in church, we've done all those kinds of things, but then there can be a disconnect into then how we act.

So the focus on the D group, obviously we want to learn about the character of God. We want to read the Bible. And as we dig in it and understand it, then we really spend time or we're supposed to spend time, figuring out what that looks in not only real life, but then how that specifically applies in our lives.

And then take it the step further to then how we respond to that what is the change in our behavior.

And I have to say that the Lord really convicted me tonight. I see the change in my heart that the Lord has done. And because of that change, there's been definite behavior changes in me.

And I'm so glad. But I think that I needed that reminder, that reminder that I don't just read the Bible and study the Bible because I want to know things. I study and read the Bible because I want God to change me.

That is the absolute entire reason for Rock This and Love Notes and all these things is because I desperately want everyone to know God and be changed by Him.

So the charge for today as it is every day is to myself as well as you, is that today we would be so cognizant that not only are we basing our foundational beliefs on truth, that we will not be swayed, but because of that truth, that our outward behavior reflects that.

I love you. God loves you. Now go take on your day.
