How To Make Time to Read the Bible- Especially When You're Busy
If you’re like most women, it’s hard to find time to read the Bible.
For too many years, I didn’t.
I had great intentions.
I wanted to read the Bible, but by the time my head hit the pillow, another day had gone by without spending time with God.
I’d feel guilty about it… but not guilty enough to really make a change.
Can we be real for a moment?
Like, for real, real?
The hard truth is we make time for the things we want to make time for.
Though I wanted to grow in my faith and read the Bible, I hadn’t yet made it a priority.
What I’ve come to realize is when we’re not reading the Bible and spending time with God, it’s a symptom of a larger problem.
Here’s the thing, I’m not talking about legalistic, check read-the-Bible off your to-do list. I’m talking about putting God back in His proper place.
That’s really the secret to making time to read the Bible:
Putting God back in His proper place.
When God is in His proper place, you naturally spend time with Him through studying the Bible and prayer. When you don’t, you miss it.
Many, many years ago, I bought into the lies of the world.
I thought I had to have Macy in all. the. things.
Looking back now, I know you do not have to schedule 2.7 playdates each week. Your kid does not have to play select ball to get a college scholarship. Your kid is not going to be ruined for life because she can’t take cheer and dance classes.
I fear you’re running yourself ragged with All. The. Things, and you’re completely overwhelmed. You’re burned out. You’re unfulfilled. You’re in need of a shower. 🙌
I see you.
That peace you’re seeking at the end of the day with a bottle of wine you are either hiding or relishing, won’t be found.
You’re going to wake up the next morning having the groundhog day of your life again.
Oh, how I want you find rest!
I don’t want your life out of whack, overwhelmed, and causing you to drown.
Let’s change that.
That’s the beauty of this life. You can make a different choice.
All hope is not lost. You are not ‘stuck’ in your life, regardless of how you feel.
So what do you do?
Put God back in His proper place.
He has to come first, not in word, but in deed.
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
In the original text, the Greek word for money in this verse was ‘Mammon.’
The short definition for mammon is whatever in this world is, or is accounted by us to be, gain.
Paul thoroughly explains what ‘gain’ means in Philippians 3:1-14.
Matthew Henry says, “Whatever is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life, is mammon. To some their belly is their mammon, and they serve that (Phil. 3:19 ); to others their ease, their sleep, their sports and pastimes, are their mammon (Prov. 6:9).
I’m not here to scold you, make you feel guilty, or add one more thing to your list. I’m here to point you to the only One who can give you peace in the midst of any circumstance.
That longing in your soul for more comes from One source.
The Lord wants you back.
He wants you in His Word.
He wants to spend time with YOU.
He wants to be God in your life.
If you want to make more time to read the Bible, it starts with the ever-important perspective shift.
If this is hitting home for you, let me help you get started.
