DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE

DISCLAIMER: Before starting any exercise or eating plan, check with your doctor.

Need something to shake up your daily routine? Ready to stretch yourself to do the impossible? This is the challenge for you! Learn how to run and go from couch potato to runner in 12 weeks. In addition to becoming physically healthier, you grow spi…

WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE?

The challenge consists of 3 phases:

PHASE 1: Learn to run for 30 minutes (12 Weeks)

PHASE 2: Learn to run for 1 hour (8 Weeks)

PHASE 3: Complete a half marathon (November 11, 2017)

Why Running?

For me, running is impossible.

Growing up, I was the slowest one. I could never seem to find my rhythm that "real" runners talked about. Despite half-hearted attempts throughout my life, I gave up before I ever became a runner.

Then came an opportunity that changed the course of my life. In May 2009, I joined the Season 8 cast of the Biggest Loser. Over the course of six months, my mind, body, and spirit changed. The overwhelming grief I carried on the show had begun to heal.

God used a television show to jumpstart my new normal.

In February of 2011, I ran (slow jogged/a little walking) a half marathon.

While crossing the finish line was incredible, the real miracle of it all was finding Jesus in my training journey. Running allowed me to shift my focus from what I had lost to what I had. Blood, sweat, and tears are truly healing waters.

  • Learn perseverance
  • Participate in community

How Does It Work?

  2. Participate in the weekly walk/run schedule (these will be emailed as well as posted in the Facebook group)

  3. Complete the weekly Bible study lessons (these will be emailed to you)

  4. Participate in the accountability Facebook group (either live or replay)

Phase 0: NOW

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase through this link, at NO ADDITIONAL cost to you, we will earn a small commission. We thank you for your support!

  1. Start walking
  2. Work up to walking 30 minutes without stopping
  3. Read Run Your Butt Off

(Please note that while I recommend the running portions of this book, I do not wholeheartedly endorse the nutrition suggestions. While I don't find them terrible, I know science has changed in the years since this book was published. Use your own judgment when following or not following the eating suggestions. Additionally, the testimonials from real people at various life stations are awesome. I love the cross-section of people and their real-life struggles. I think you'll find someone with whom you can identify.)

Phase 1: Starts May 1, 2017

This phase lasts for 12 weeks.

Each week you will receive an email with that week's Bible study and walk/run schedule.

Each week we will "meet" in the Facebook group to discuss the Bible study as well as provide accountability for the walk/run training.

If you can't make the meeting live, there will always be a replay.

Sign up for the half marathon. (I'll include a new link if I'm able to get us a group rate, etc.)

Phase 2: Starts July 24, 2017

By this point you will be able to or very close to being able to run for 30 minutes.

We will follow a similar plan to Phase 1. After seeing how Phase 1 goes, we will adjust as necessary.

Phase 3: Starts September 18, 2017

Continue with the running plan/accountability group/Bible study

Make plans to travel to Nashville (if you can).

FAQ

Do I have to run?

Absolutely not. If running is not physically possible, you can participate by walking, biking, swimming, etc.

I've never run before. Do you have recommendations for what to wear and such?

Yes, I've compiled a list of resources that can help you get started. Please note this is not an exhaustive list, but it should help as you become a runner.

Do I have to come to Nashville to participate?

While we would LOVE for you to join us live, no, you can run a half marathon in your area, or you can even run the half marathon on your own. Again, our focus is on the journey, and the race is just the icing on the cake.

What if I'm late to the party?

Start where you are. It's fine to jump into the challenge whenever. You may not be ready for the half, but you'll be taking the first step and preparing for the next challenge.

You must sign up to receive the Bible Study and Training Plan.
