As believers and business owners, praying for our business should be a daily practice. Our businesses are not just ours -- they are His, and we are just stewards of it. As much as we go through goal setting and growth strategies, God has even bigger dreams for our business. But, how can we pray for our businesses? Here are 10 prayers you can pray for your business.
1. God, what do you want to do through my business? (Proverbs 19:21)
Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
There's nothing wrong with dreaming, brainstorming, and setting goals in our business. But, do our ideas align with His purpose? We need to stay aware and aligned with His purpose, and to be sure we're following His will for our business.
2. God, may the work I do glorify You. (Matthew 5:16)
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5: 16
We don't have to be building churches and shouting scripture to glorify Him. Our work can glorify Him, or point others to Him -- but is it? Is there anything in our business that needs changed, that isn't glorifying Him?
3. God, continue to show Your favor in my business. (Psalm 5:12)
Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12
It may feel strange, but it's okay to ask for God to show favor and provision in your business. God's favor doesn't just mean more money, it could mean new connections or new ideas.
4. God, give me guidance and discernment. (Psalm 119:66)
Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands. Psalm 119:66
As business owners, we're faced with making decisions everyday. Saying yes or no to: clients, collaborations, investments, advertising, software, etc. We want to make sound decisions that align with His plan.
5. God, help me to be well-equipped to serve my clients. (Hebrews 13:20-21)
Now may the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21
Businesses grow and evolve, as we grow, and as clients' needs change. I started out just doing print design, but as technology and business changed, I transformed into a web designer to better serve my clients.
6. God, thank you for what you have done, and will do in my business. (Psalm 107:1)
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1
We come to God asking for so many things, but we can't forget to thank Him! Thank Him for past, current, and future provision and favor.
7. God, give me peace. (Psalm 29:11)
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11
Owning your own business can be stressful and scary -- it often requires walking by faith, not by sight! Satan will try to make you focus on the stress, instead of on God.
8. God, open my eyes to the opportunities you've placed before me. (Colossians 4:5)
Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Colossians 4:5
Sometimes, as business owners we can have blinders on, and not see what He's placed before us. It may just be another email in your inbox, or a tweet you see, but God could be purposely placing an opportunity before you.
9. God, watch over and bless my clients and vendors. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the Lord's holy people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurable more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ jesus throughout all generations for ever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21
Without clients, our businesses wouldn't exist. If your business requires working with vendors, they're also a vital part of your business. Praying for the livelihood of others keeps your heart focused on others, instead of just your own success.
10. God, help me to be inspired and motivated. (Isaiah 40:31)
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on the wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
It's no secret that running a business can be exhausting -- even when we love what we do. God is our ultimate source of inspiration and creativity. Lean into Him when you feel unmotivated or burned out.
Praying for your business is a great way to remind ourselves that our businesses are truly His, and just a way for us to glorify God. No matter what industry you are in, or the size of your business, your business is your ministry. Jesus never said we had to sell Bibles or become missionaries to glorify Him and reach others. He will equip you and empower you to reach others through your business!
